Cortez Simmons in trouble again

Cortez Simmons, who was recently acquitted of all charges surrounding the murder of Shamard Ingham last year, has found himself back in trouble with the law again, this time for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

At press time he was being interrogated and according to Detective Inspector Ira Baptiste, he was scheduled to be charged over the weekend for assaulting a police officer.

The incident, according to the detective inspector, which allegedly took place along Airport Road in Providenciales on Saturday April 26, triggered over a disagreement between young Simmons and a Dominican female.

The police said they received a call from the woman who said a man was trying to take away her bag, and when the police arrived on the scene they saw Simmons and the woman. Inspector Baptiste said the police tried calm him down but were met with little success. They allegedly attempted a second time to calm him, and at that staged he allegedly assaulted one of the police officers.

Following investigations, Simmons was picked up by the police on Thursday, May 1, and up until press time he was still being questioned. Simmons was freed by a seven member jury of the shooting death of Shamard Ingham, who was shot dead on February 23, 2007at an apartment occupied by Simmons in Glass Shack, Providenciales.
