FCO boss to visit TCI

Director for the Overseas Territories, in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Mr. Colin Roberts will be visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands this week, according to a press release from the Governor’s office.
During the visit he will meet with members of the Advisory Council and Consultative Forum as well as representatives of the business community.
The FCO head is expected to be updated on the current economic, political and social situation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, while discussing the global economic climate, issues relating to good governance and law and order.
Roberts and Governor Gordon Wetherell will meet with the press on Wednesday 3rd February at 11 am at the Hilly Ewing Building in Providenciales. Roberts recently visited the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands.
As Director of the Overseas Territories, Mr. Roberts is responsible for the Southern Oceans Team comprising of the South Atlantic Section, British Indian Ocean Territory, Pitcairn Section and the Caribbean as well as Bermuda.
Roberts, who joined the diplomatic service in 1989, was the FCO’s DOT from 2008. His other postings were: 2004-2008 HM Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania; 2001-4 Political Counsellor, British Embassy, Tokyo;  1998-2001 Head, EU Foreign and Security Policy Department, FCO;
1997-1998 First Secretary for Political-Military Affairs, British Embassy, Paris; 1994-1996 Head, Justice and Home Affairs Section, European Union Department, FCO;1994 Head, Gibraltar Section, European Union Department, FCO; 1992-1994 First Secretary, Political Affairs, British Embassy, Tokyo; 1990-1992 Second Secretary, Financial and Economic Affairs, British Embassy, Tokyo; 1990 Far Eastern Section, Economic Advisers, FCO; 1989 - 1990 Republic of Ireland Department, FCO.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office – ‘the FCO’ or ‘the Foreign Office’ for short – is the government department responsible for promoting British interests overseas and supporting British citizens and businesses around the globe.
It runs a global network of offices (embassies, high commissions and consulates) in more than 170 countries.
According to its website, the FCO has aligned its activities, financial resources and staff to focus on “those things that matter most to Britain and the British people and where we can make the biggest difference”.
“We seek to promote and develop human rights, law and governance and a low carbon high growth global economy. And we work closely with international and UK cross-governmental partners to establish stability and ensure that our borders are managed to protect the UK from terrorist attacks,” the website noted.
